Peter Kastner
with the Anne Frank Band
U.S. Cookbook
Two diners were asked to pick one menu each from a selection
of eight Texas deathrow inmates' last meals. The images of all
eight felons were hung on the wall, with the unselected corresponding
photographs removed once the diners made their choices.
One diner (Joe Ahearn) chose the James Powell Menu,
which consisted of a single pot of coffee. The second diner (Taisha
Hutchison) selected the Stanley Baker, Jr. Menu,
a feast of: Two 16 oz. rib-eyes, one lb. turkey breast (sliced
thin), twelve strips of bacon, two large hamburgers with mayo,
onion, and lettuce, two large baked potatos with butter, sour
cream, cheese, and chives, four slices of cheese or one half pound
of grated cheddar cheese, chef salad with blue cheese dressing,
two ears of corn on the cob, one pint of mint chocolate chip ice
cream, and four vanilla Cokes or Mr. Pibb.
The Anne Frank Band (Tianna Kennedy + friends) began improvising
sound to the food and images and bios of the chosen inmates once
the menus were selected. They played the duration of the meal,
which lasted nearly three hours. Diners were not allowed to share.
