In
conjunction with Conflux
2007, New General Catalog presents a project curated by
Trong G. Nguyen.
Sunday, September 16, in commemoration of the 50th
anniversary of Guy Debord’s 1st Situationist International, the
gallery will host the Girls
of the Third Situ8ionist International
Summit (G3SIS). Similar to its
G8 and WTO counterparts, this closed-door meeting brings together eight
women from the art world who will discuss issues of mutual or global
concern and make public their findings and recommendations by the end
of the evening. The range of topics includes health, law enforcement,
labor, economic and social development, energy, environment, foreign
affairs, justice and interior, terrorism, theocracies, and trade.
The eight will consist of artists, curators, critics, and intellectuals
who have been challenged to engage creative problem-solving through
radical and redefined rules of engagement and present practical solutions
to humankind’s most pressing concerns
While no one in New York will
actually witness the event, half way across the globe the summit will
be broadcast as a radio transmission to Berlin's super bien!
(Greenhouse for Contemporary Art) as part of Nguyen's monthlong program
there.
